Over April the PAS foyer was buzzing with a beautiful, eclectic collection of oil and watercolour paintings by our very talented member Joan Denner. Joan had to re-stock the hive part way through the exhibition when another member purchased her watercolour titled ”Bees”.

About Joan

Joan Denner is a tonal realist painter in oil, pastel and watercolour. Born in Melbourne, she started serious painting with Mitcham Arts Society then took private lessons for 10 years in tonal realism style with the late Marjorie Martin.

Joan lived and painted in the UK for 8 years and has many paintings hanging in various parts of the world. After returning to Melbourne she married artist Jeff Gilmour.

She has studied with Fiona Bilborough, Brian Armstrong and learned from demonstrations by accomplished artists such as David Chen and Hans Van Vlodrop. Currently she is enjoying painting in watercolour.

Awards

Joan has won over 500 awards including many First Prizes, Best in Show and Highly Commended Awards. Recent awards:

Best in Show – Chelsea Art Show – 2022
First Prize Watercolour, Mornington Art Show – 2023
First Prize Oils – Knox Art Show – 2023

In 2023 Joan created quite a buzz when she won 2nd place in the People’s Choice Awards at our Open Studio & Exhibition with her art work titled “Bee Family”.
