About Peninsula Arts Society
Sharing a passion for art …
Peninsula Arts (Peninsula Arts Society Inc) is a substantial not for profit organisation, located in Frankston South, gateway to the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Our 500 plus members share a creative bond and a passion for all things art.
Learn art
Peninsula Arts, or “PAS” as it is referred to by members, offers a diverse program through which you can develop your artistic talents and skills, whatever your starting level. A range of tutored classes and workshops in various media provide solid grounding in essential skills. With the basics under your belt, the guidance and encouragement of our experienced professional tutors can take your skills and creativity to the next level.
Each month you can enjoy a good dose of inspiration and insight at our art demonstrations where accomplished professional artists take the audience through their work process, step by step. While the paint dries, afternoon tea provides an opportunity for questions, discussion and social chitchat. Demonstrators generally run follow-up workshops, open to members and the public. A great way to dip your toe in the Peninsula Arts waters.
We also offer several Studio Art Groups, where you can utilize our excellent studio facilities to work on your own projects alongside other artists. This process is not only inspiring and encouraging, it results in much collaborative learning of new skills and a sense of camaraderie and common purpose that will help you stay true to your artistic journey.
Current Studio Groups include Life Drawing, Portraiture, Plein Air Art, Textile Art, Social Painting, Watercolour and Writing. You are welcome to visit our studios on any Wednesday 6:30 pm – 9:00pm or Friday 9 am -12 noon to see our social painting sessions in action.
Enjoy our excellent studio facilities
Our studios, situated in a beautiful parkland setting, offer plenty of well lit carpeted space; work tables, easels and sinks; a tea room; office; small gallery space; audio visual facilities; comfortable heating and cooling; easy off-street parking including disabled; and above all, a very friendly atmosphere.
You can borrow art books, magazines and DVDs from our extensive, comprehensive and well-organised library.
Exhibit and sell your art
Our popular gala Spring Art Show, open to the public, showcases the work of our members and offers them an opportunity to sell their work. We see working towards an exhibition as an integral and important part of the process of learning to be an artist. From time to time we run other exhibitions eg at the Frankston Waterfront Festival. Members can also apply to exhibit their work in our studio’s Foyer Gallery.
Volunteer
Our organisation is very proudly run entirely by a network of volunteers who offer their skills to provide a wide range of services, major and minor, to fellow members. Volunteering with Peninsula Arts is highly rewarding. You are making a real contribution to the artistic development of fellow artists, and chances are you’ll make some wonderful like-minded friends along the way.
