Dive into an enriching artistic journey through hands-on sessions complemented by demonstrations. You will learn the language of painting, which follows the same principles across media.
Understand composition, colour and tonal values. Discover how to start a painting with small sketches through which you establish a strong tonal composition and explore ideas and concepts before applying colour. Explore underpainting, brush mark and palette knife techniques. Advanced painters will gain skills, confidence and understanding in their chosen medium.

Join me at this fun and innovative pastel class where you will follow in the footsteps of impressionist artists Degas, Manet and Mary Casset. Working on both paper and canvas you will explore the application of soft pastel over a mixed media underpainting created with coloured inks, black ink, charcoal and more. Create your choice of exciting landscape, seascape, figurative or still life compositions. You can take a traditional or more abstract approach. This class will inspire and equip you with the information and skills to find your own path within this beautiful medium.

This introductory coloured pencil course is designed for both beginners and continuing students. You’ll explore the fundamentals of botanical drawing with coloured pencils, including how to create form and tone, apply layering techniques, and identify basic geometric shapes in nature to enhance your work. The focus will be on observational drawing from life to produce realistic botanical renderings. The course takes place in a friendly and supportive environment, where you’ll be encouraged to develop your skills at your own pace. Some time will also be set aside for warm-up exercises in graphite to support your overall drawing practice. Come join us and grow your creativity one leaf at a time!

Watercolour master Greg Allen is one of the famous Twenty Melbourne Painters with a 43-year professional art career.
You will learn the art of traditional watercolour the Greg Allen way, with unique insights, knowledge and demonstrations that will allow you to understand this challenging medium and thus be able to expand your range into such diverse subjects. Lessons in design, composition and good drawing skills will complement the curriculum. More than anything else, Greg will teach you to ‘see’ the world as a painter with watery ‘dye’ as your painting material.

Working with mixed media is all about learning to become familiar with a range of materials, on their own, or mixed with others. We will explore the sorts of marks possible with different tools and techniques. Colour study, design aesthetics, and ways to create effects will also be investigated. This watercolour class is step by step, following the tutor for beginners to medium painters. We explore elements of drawing, composition, colour mixing, learning the ratio of paint to water, observation of nature and how to use your brushes to maximise effect on the paper. Su Fishpool is a qualified professional practicing artist who has exhibited widely, as well as a qualified art teacher. She has many years experience teaching fine art skills in a range of media, to both adults and children. Many of Su’s former students have gone onto art school and on to work in the arts.
In these classes Su will demonstrate the use of various media and introduce children to different art styles and art movements, to enhance their understanding of art in an historical timeline.
Su promotes a calm and friendly atmosphere in her classes, believing this is essential to all children producing their best efforts. Students are welcome to bring an after-school snack to class.
