Angela Russo has always had a passion for drawing and loved the study of art. Even though her path temporarily took her in a different direction with the completion of a degree in education, her love of art remained. As a teacher she became renowned for her blackboard drawings and was often asked to illustrate booklets and teaching aids.
After working in education and raising a family she decided to follow her heart and take up art classes. These began at Peninsula Arts with Jacqueline Long’s pastel classes, followed with study under many leading artists in different mediums and subject matter, including pastel techniques, printmaking, drawing, life drawing, portraiture, pen and wash, and acrylic painting.
Angela has had tuition with notable artists including Catherine Hamilton, Agata Lelek, Rosemary Todman Parrant, Alan Rawady, Lorraine Lewitska, Ross Paterson, Maxwell Wilks, Vivi Palegeorge and Dawn Emerson (USA).
Angela loves the pastel medium but also enjoys working in charcoal, acrylic paint and ink. Drawing forms the foundation of each of her artworks and she loves capturing the essence of the subject matter.
In Angela Russo’s artworks she endeavours to communicate a celebration of life and a sense of beauty. She paints what inspires her and brings her joy – the wonder of nature, people, places and animals. She aims to create artworks that lift your spirit, put a smile on your face, evoke a happy memory or induce a sense of joy and peace.
Angela Russo has taken part in many art shows and has had multiple successful solo exhibitions in Melbourne and more locally on the Mornington Peninsula. She has been the recipient of numerous art awards including Best Pastel, Best Cityscape, Best Landscape and Best Wildlife.
Angela is a member of the Peninsula Arts Society & the Pastel Society of Victoria, Australia.
